Unbelievable news everyone! Steve Garrett and Heidi Salerno, two of the BEST Balboa teachers IN THE WORLD are coming to Auckland to teach some workshops for us in September!! It is hard to describe how lucky we are to have two such internationally acclaimed teachers come and help us at such an early stage in our blossoming Balboa journey. Check out what we have planned !

Venue: St Georges Presbyterian Church, 2 The Terrace, Takapuna
Tickets: $35 per workshop, discounted for multiple workshops and earlybirds (registration and payment prior to August 31). There will be no door sales so please register in advance in class or via email. Payment can be by cash, cheque, or internet banking.

Pre-requisites: Prior knowledge of the Balboa basics is required, even for the first workshop, and even if you have some prior knowledge, it is recommended you start at the beginning.
Timetable: Please arrive in plenty of time to check in before the commencement of your workshops.

- 10.00am - 11.15pm - "Balboa Basics"
- 11.30am - 12.45pm - "Multiple Turns and Combos"
- 12.45pm - 1.45pm - lunch break
- 1.45pm - 3.00pm - "Footwork and Fancy Free"
- 3.15pm - 4.30pm - "Advanced Concepts" (restricted entry)
Note: Tea and coffee will be available throughout the day but you may want to bring some energy bars and drinks if you are doing more than one workshop. Lunch is also BYO, or there are several local food options just 5 minutes away.
We will also have Maries Discount Dance Shoes on site with a selection of Aris Allen, Bloch and Capezio dance shoes and sneakers for sale at less than retail prices.

Whether or not you have done the workshops, you must come to our PARTY!! We have an awesome LIVE BAND to listen to (the amazing 15 piece Tuxedo Swing Orchestra!) - some incredible international and out of town dancers to watch and even dance with if you are brave enough (Heidi & Steve and the Christchurch contingent don't bite - not before midnight anyway!) - a theme to DIE for - a super cool Beginners lesson to kick off the night - some yummy nibbles - AND prizes - ALL for only $25 ! You would be mad to miss it !

Need a bit of help getting your hair and make-up just right for your vampire-cool image ?? Well, Irene has very generously offered to open up her salon for a casual get together just before the party. Free of charge, this won't be a full on session - but she has all the gear and can help you with those finishing touches - a few curls, a little product, a bit of blood....so why not pop along and have a bit of fun (BYO drink). And boys this includes you......a little vampire makeup never hurt anyone :) Located in Hurstmere Road opposite the ASB Bank this is just a stones throw from St Georges, and there is plenty of parking in the Anzac St carpark directly behind the salon.

private lessons - sunday 20 september
Steve and Heidi will be available for private lessons on the Sunday. These will be conducted at the Ponsonby Bowling Club and will cost USD 70 (for an individual or couple). There are limited spots available so email me asap to reserve yours!

Internationally acclaimed champs Steve & Heidi, famous for their phenomenal footwork, fun and creativity, are unquestioanbly one of the best Balboa dance partnerships in the world. Sought after for classes, workshops and private lessons worldwide, they thrive on bringing their style of Balboa and Bal-Swing to dancers all over the globe.
With over 20 years of combined teaching experience and countless competition wins between them, Steve & Heidi not only bring their knowledge of the way Balboa was originally done in the 30's & 40's (having sought out and learnt directly from some of the old-timers) but also bring lots of fun and exciting moves they have created and innovated over the years.
They both have a remarkable understanding of body movement and mechanics and can break down moves and provide dance technique in easily understandable ways. Most importantly, they can impart the true Balboa "feel" which is at the heart of this amazing dance.
Steve has been dancing since 1996 and his voracious appetite for history aided in his emerging into a Big Band music and dance historian, helping him understand all the different styles of Swing and why they fit so well with evolving music rhythms of the time. Steve is also a Kung Fu San Soo Master, with over 20 years of study.
Heidi came to Swing in 1999 with a trained knowledge of dance and body movement, which she acquired as a dance major as well as from a long history of studying and teaching ballet, tap and jazz spanning over several decades, and even spent several years in the circus performing on the web and trapeze!
