Welcome to New Zealand's first dedicated Balboa & Blues Exchange !
If you thought BASE Camp in June was amazing, then hold onto your hats, because we have another extreme event lined up for you in just a few months! And yes, we mean 'extreme' in the literal sense as we are going to be going from ridiculously fast Balboa to sublimely slow Blues in the one weekend.
That is not as crazy as it might sound - as even though these two dances are at opposite ends of the swing scale in terms of tempo, their concepts of leading and following and getting in sync with your partner are actually very similar. If you can master these in addition to Lindy Hop, then not only will you be able to dance to EVERY song throughout the night instead of sitting out the ones that are 'too fast' or 'too slow', but you will also find that the techniques you learn here will help you take ALL your dancing to the next level.
So....don't delay, have a browse around our website to see the exciting programme we have lined up for you, and then sign up as quick as you can as some of the classes and events do have number limitations.
And just a reminder of the highlights, we have ...........
- THREE nights of social dancing, featuring the QUEEN CITY BIG BAND on the Saturday
- TWO days of workshops with THREE international teachers - including, wait for it...
- JOEL PLYS and SOPHIE YESBERG teaching together in New Zealand for the first time !

As this is our first Balboa & Blues exchange, we are keeping our fingers crossed that some of you folks from cities and lands afar will have heard what an enthusiastic and friendly bunch we are - and will be prepared to take a punt that this exchange will be as awesome as we know it will :) If you are thinking of joining us, please let us know you are coming, and we will do our best to help you out with hosting and / or accommodation and local travel advice.

For people that are totally new to any of these dances, we are also offering two free introductory 'taster' classes as part of Auckland's Tempo Dance Festival 2010. These include an introduction to the two other main dances under the swing umbrella - Lindy Hop and 1920's Charleston. New dancers are also welcome to sign up for all of our Blues workshops on the Sunday, and any of our evening social dances - including our 1940's big band event on the Saturday night ! |
